Lifeguardtraining

Learn to prevent, prepare for, and respond to aquatic emergencies with University Recreation's American Red Cross Lifeguard Training. Through classroom lecture and hands-on practice, you'll learn:

  • Surveillance skills to help you recognize and prevent injuries
  • Rescue skills - in the water and on land
  • First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer training
  • Professional lifeguard responsibilities such as customer service, problem solving, and general safety

For information on becoming a University Recreation Lifeguard, please contact (509)335-UREC (8732) or aquatics@wsu.edu. Lifeguards must complete a skills screening for consideration.  The next skills screening will be held in October for the Spring 2013 Hiring Session. Applicants must also attend one of the mandatory All-UREC information sessions held in the SRC also in October. You must already possess a Lifeguarding Certification to apply.

Lifeguarding is open to all participants ages 15 and older.  Youth registration must be taken for those under 18.
